Response:
The black rings around the nipples may be dried milk from a previous pregnancy. You don’t use flea products on a pregnant cat. You need to use a flea comb and pick the fleas off. A suggestion, before doing this, give her a bath with L’Oreal Kids Shampoo. It’s tearless and will drown the fleas.

Last night Paris (9.5 mos. persian) was getting a *grooming session* done. I was brushing under her armpits and came across a little mat so, I got the scissors to cut it. Once I did I checked out the spot to make sure her ringworm wasnt a part of the mat. What I did see was, and I am 99.9% sure, a frign’ flea! When I got Paris last July she had little black rings around her nipples. I checked and checked but I couldnt find any fleas at all. I even brought her to the vet etc…..The only thing that she had was ringworm. The rings were a mystery!!! Both of my cats are indoor and have not come into contact with any other pets. I am thinking that the only place that Paris could have caught this lil’ prick from was maybe at the groomers in January. Or could she have gotten it from me if I went to a friends house whose animals had fleas? I am clueless and upset as to where my baby got this from! I shaved her right down last night and found nothing! Not even the one that I busted! After a 1/4 of a garbage bag of fur :0( later, I really dont know what to think? Can it be a male flea and be an only resident? Also, since her wash, cut & set, she seems like a totally different cat. She seems so much happier. Today she was on the kitchen table (dh wasnt home so I let them up) she was chasing her tail around, snuggled with me this morning on the rocker, playing like crazy…….she just seems so happy so I think that I may just let her have short fur if she loves it so much! Can I treat her with a flea shampoo to be safe? Or should I not? Any advice would be great! P.S Can I use flea shampoo while I am pregnant? I know I had to stop using my ringworm cream…… Thanks, Nancy!

What if I was mistaken and it wasnt a flea (i havnt found or saw one since). You would not have shaved your cat, She is still beautiful no matter what her hair style!!!! would have not had to worry about flea shampoo and pregnancy (flea shampoo does not work 100% anyway) in the time that it took you to post to this newsgroup and have me respond to you, you could have gotten rid of ALL your fleas. There was only one (if it was) and I havnt found or saw one since!!! It only took a couple minutes to post this anyways :0) And I wanted to know if I could apply flea shampoo first without harming my baby, otherwise I would have gotton DH to do it!!!!!! It does not matter if your cat does not come in contact with other cats, or if they are indoor only.. if you ever open your door or you ever walk outside you can track fleas in. You are never safe, if you have things like gofers, squirrels other animals around the neighborhood.. dogs or what not. It is -40 here, we dont have gofers etc……Before you gon on, my house is well heated!!!!!! Unless you GEEZE! I can’t believe you shaved a long haired cat down.!!! Dont kill your self or fall into a depression because I shaved my cat O.K? What is your problem with me shaving her anyways? It seems like it is *really* bothering you??? Do you have a thing with short haired nice, light coat! She even feels lighter when I pick her up!!!

You come in here FREAKING out about ONE flea, and how you have a ton of cat hair in a bag, because of ONE flea, and how you don’t know what you are going to do, because of ONE flea, THEN you ask if flea shampoo would be bad for your pregnancy, and *I* am the one who is IGNORANT?? What the fuck ever. Bye bye for you. Rhonda – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Good Lord! You sure went through a lot of trouble for one flea. I can’t believe you shaved her down. Are gotta be mental or something, that is a ridiculous thing to do to a cat you love because of one flea. Whoopy sh*t! I was planning on giving her the lion cut in the spring anyways! It gets to 90d here soemtimes! It isnt like I poured boiling water on her, she is still beautiful with her *brush cut*. She is only shaved and she is not going to die, she is going to be fine Wouldn’t it have made more sense to use advantage and within 24 hours any flea that was living would have been dead. Do you have a thing with short haired light coat! She even feels lighter when I pick her up!!! Thats all I care about not your ignorant, meaningless reply that really didnt answer anything that I asked but, just cut me down for doing something harmless!! Nancy!!
– Y2K? Because *one* K just isn’t enough.
