Successful mod for using angle-base headlight bulbs in LH cars

Question:

Looking forward to the "how to".  My ‘99 300m lights are not bright enough for these tired old eyes. Gramps

If any of you are interested in substituting angle-base 9006 bulbs, I successfully designed and performed a mod to an LH-car headlight assembly that allows the use of angle-base bulbs.  See

http://pub88.ezboard.com/f300menthusiastsclubfrm2.showMessage?topicID… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As I stated there, I will put together a how-to with photos in the coming week. Based on repeated advice from Daniel Stern, I decided I wanted to change to Sylvania XtraVisionT bulbs.  Problem is, they are only made in the usual angle base, but they won’t fit the headlight assemblies of the 300M, Concorde, and LHS (my understanding is that the angle-base bulbs will fit the Intrepids without mods?).  These vehicles are made to accept only straight-base bulbs.  That limits you to the OEM bulb and Sylvania SilverStarsT (which Daniel Stern adamantly recommends against), and possibly a few other aftermarket bulbs. Problem is solved. But the adoptive mom made a false testimony, in court, opting for her flesh and blood to be spared jail, when I asked no jail for him, telling the judge jail was about violence and drugs, which was his problem to start with…, but askign for  a probation of three years, two minimum and mandatory follow up with a psy plus detox. about this dr hunt. By now, the sinuses have a bad infection, a cyst seeming to maybe be at cause, and that lead to a bad labirintitis and yadee yada, with now

their

all muscles were atrophied a lot… Workign there, I had the forst cash by doors. I started having an

him

an urgent request on April 27. I will see him…next Friday! I saw him once before as my new gp sent request after request until he acknowledged one of hers before the emergency’s (sic). Since she had written "cyst in sinus" he kept looking at my nose and nothign else no matter how I said about the ear infection, the loss of balance, etc. He declared my ears fine, arguing and not checkign tehm:(. My (adoptive) brother was about to hit my (adoptive) mother, and I tried to talk to him to calm him down, since she had called me and asked for my help, saying he was violent with her. He was on booze and dope, bad trip, bad mix. I tried to ask the cops for help: they woudl do nothing unless she woudl file a complaint, as if the law never had changed about the elderly. She then was 68…. I managed  as his fist was already thrown full blast to somehow make him hold it back: it was as if he was fighting for the fist to stop, but could not stop the power of the blow, the muscles all fighting within back and forth, making the arms be tensed, fist clenched, and the entire forearm and fist just shake in the air as if stopped by some unseen wall he woudl fight against. It was as if he could not stop without grounding the fost somehwere.  And he decided to not touch her. But went around the table and hit me. I had seven jaw fractures, a broekn neck (holding by a hairline of a piece of bone), three facial fractures at bones under the eyes (and voila for the sinus) plus a borken nose, stitches on my mouth, two broken ribs, a cardiac arrest and a cerebral commotion, on top of a couple temporal fractures, etc. I took my adoptive brother to court, as I coudl not live wiht the idea he coudl kill "mom" any time. I never coudl have looked myself in the eye… But the adoptive mom made a false testimony, in court, opting for her flesh and blood to be spared jail, when I asked no jail for him, telling the judge jail was about violence and drugs, which was his problem to start with…, but askign for  a probation of three years, two minimum and mandatory follow up with a psy plus detox. She made a flase testimony nonetheless. And two words against one made the judge say he had no choice and coudl not techicalities making it so, declare him guilty but that he woudl be darned if he woudl decalre him innocent: he therefore decided to "cancel" (void) the trial…That amde ti so I lost any right to any compensation from the victims of criminal acts program: they know oen can lose, criminal minds lying like they breath, but they asked that oen simply at least took the assaulter to trial. I had, but the judge voiding it made it as good as if I never had been through that when in such physical pain…All that for nada…  As a reaction to the constant pain and physical traumas, the antibodies went wild: my immune systen becamne hyperactive and my thyroide too under the bombardment of antibodies, stimulated, secreted lethal levels of thyroidine. In the meantime, medicare decided I woudl be a an illegal immigrant all of a sudden. I suspect the adoptive mom sent them papers of my other birth certificate, as I learned as well in the mentime I woudl be born in the US to someoen I knew as my aunt: my adoptive dad’s sister…and in Chicago, not in Canada as they had always pretended with papers sayign so. Medicare then refused to give me my card, and I was without any treatment at all…No resources, unable to wrk, nada there too. I lived as I could, paralysed three eyars after 3.5 of a comatosis mind, not even havign a notion of time…Just a vegetable drooling on herself with the so many factures that ehaled all crooked. Not one pain killer, but thank God for tyleno…when I couidl get mny hands on some, eh. We are now 13 years later. I have my card from medicare sicne 1 year and a bit, but if I tried to get a fmaily dr, I had a real hard time. The rest you prolly know from reading about this dr hunt. By now, the sinuses have a bad infection, a cyst seeming to maybe be at cause, and that lead to a bad labirintitis and yadee yada, with now their seing the rbain infection that according to me is there since a long time, many eyars now. But worse in the last while, last eyar much worse for the motor shuttign off suddenly at times, if there has been more rpessure and more liquid in my head on some eyars. The rpessure at times was such I compared it to having oen;s head under an 18 wheeler, save the rpessure was from the inside, not from the outside. Needless to say that as logn as I coudl not think, I coudl not work. My career is in editing, and I coudl not even type wihtout typos, eh. I started walking again for more than the trip to the washroom in October a few years ago (three now??). By Nov, I was workign as a waitress in a donut shop under minimum wages. Some in here that ahve been here long enough could certify this for having followed the  ups and downs sicne then abnd before. (Been ehre since was it 96 ?). Let;s say it was physiotherapu paid 6 dollars an hour, eh. VERY painful as all muscles were atrophied a lot… Workign there, I had the forst cash by doors. I started having an earache that woudl not go away, and a toothache… But the eyar before, I lived still without heating, and was on th4e street a while, after I managed to have the house where I lived that the landlord left without heating, without fixing a leaking roof, etc, condemned. In that old house, the poil tank was INSIDE the house. The bottom was rusted, and after I coudlhave nuns help me pay me  some heating oil, the bottom gave away and 200 gallons of oil leaked inside th house. My son and I started infection of respiratory system; of digestive track, etc, you name it. My brain started swelling bad…. My teeth were killing me and a dentist I went to see a dec 23  to try and avoid spending Xmas at the emergency one more eyar injected me IN the sinuses. Made things worse, eh. After working as a waitress ina  donut shop, I worked as a commissionnaire. On shifts. orse possible thign for someoen with Graves that had not slept 11 straight months, but by then feeding myself was urgent. I had gone down to 87 pounds at 5 ft 10. Eh. I figured I;d die of inanition if the rbain made it through, so… Just a bundle of joy. inally 13 years later, Is ee an ENT after the hospital emergency sends him an urgent request on April 27. Now that infection got to the rbain. Can;t wait to see what he says this next Friday and I hope he moves his lil *ss:(. IN any case, to not be slowed down more than we can avoid by this one, woudl he stay wiht a broken darn clutch, we already made a request for another ENT. Will take time (like the other sicne April seign me in…august, ight as well say september!). But ti will be that much faster sicne we already made the request. Seing a gp for the constant caugh and itchiness in ears drivign me nuts, that oen also declared my ears were fine and told me to eat lil candies. I told him "but….I lose balance…I fall uncosncious without any signs warnign me…I fell in the stairs…" he argued that that "was not true" (??/) cause if so, "I;d have had bruises". I todl him I certainly did! (some asl-er visited me weeks later and my foot was still bruised: I just started feelign then a bone under the bruises that was …broklen in the foot, eh.). But sicne I had no bruises a year later, I was a lair (?). That one then wanted to play power trip in telling me it was all in my ehad and sayign it was a neurologist I needed to see. I said nothing cept "Frnkly:(:("… Cause I had tried to be refered to a neurologist for the pressure in my ehad sicne years and they woudl not! If you ever need to see one, say your ears itch:). Dress liek a woman, and see a male gp, it will he;lp;-). And here I am now. There. Long sad story, was a tough oen to live for how logn it lasts with consewuences and so on. But  many thigns are better. I am back in my fieldf, where I can handwrite without "spellign mistakes" at elast… Lpower level than when I left 13 years ago, but hey, beats washign floors at Tim Hortons;-). This Sept 9, on my adoptve bdate, I will be sending a request for a birth certificate in Chicago and see what happens:). They ask for the full anme of the parents and child. Not sure what my names were bt someoen oece slipped and let out that oen fo them woudl ahve been "Cristine". As well, story goes that I woudl ahve been born under the adoptive aprents names immediately, i.e. that my natural mom borrowed my adoptove mom’s id cards, and went to the hospital with her husband (her brother. Confusing, is it not?:)), where then I was born under the adoptive father and mother. My natural mom died two motnhs before the assault trial. I had called her a few weeks before. Hearign me, she just coudl repeat my name and cry endlessly, then said she had to hang up cause she woudl not stop crying. I never dar4ed call her again so wshe woudl not cry….. And then she died… So by the time of the trial., it did not bother my adoptive mom anymore to use the fact I was adopted in court, thinkign ti woudl help her to depict me as an unknown father bastard with lorrd knows what genes. I rememebr the judge was horrified. And told her "I can understand that a mother wants to protect her son. But look at her! LOOK AT HER! She put her life on the line cause you asked her for help, soethign none fo your natural kids was ready to do. Look at her!!! She still si p[aying with her life!!". But she refused to even look at me, nose in th4e air…And said I was only adopted stuff… After their attroney saw they "won" cause no condemnation went to my adoptive brother, I saw them try and shake his hand. I saw their attorney tell them that … read more »

Came back from work and was absolutely STUNNED at the progress on my right side of face. There is a bad spot where the last root canal we started decided to hurt and to swell up a bit today. Makes me look like a bulldog a bit as the swelling in by chin, and lower part of lower jaw. But for the rest? Holly cow!!!!! I coudl not recognize the skin texture AT ALL. My eyes are way less sucked in the orbits, or looking less so, asthe skin simply can be more normally hydrated without the super congetion of sinus due to cyst on that side that I think we drained a bit just by changing a small filling no oen ever suspected coudl have caused the said cyst. It looked fine, but it hurt me darn it! Finally was changed, and voila! So far so good, and even VERY good! Even my forehead on that side, and a bit on the other side too, eh, looks like the skin is way more "creamy", elsastic, alive… I just can’t believe how WHITE is is though: it always looked grey or brownish grey, as if liver probs, due to no circulation at all in cheek/face on that side. The deep black rings all around the eyes are GONE!! Heck, that side no does better than the other, where it was incredibly worse, soooooo uuuuugly! The other one has a small abcess over upper jaw…The oen that amde the entire face swell up so bad they feared for my eye, in April, and for which I had 2.5 months of antibios, including a week of IV at hospital…There remains a lil sopemthign there. If we can not finish the root canal we started two weeks ago, tomorrow, due to swelling, we can maybe Wednesday do that one instead. If not, it is schedule for the wednesday after this one (and ending the oen we started on this coming Wednesday). Tomorrow, the wisdom tooth surgery (had confused with today but today is eye apointment at 7:30 this evening), where I hope that by removing that one, it will give the EARS a huge break. I hope so! The darn thing is apparently broken under the jaw bone, inside, real deep and roots touch sinuses, so better not chance it for a wisdom tooth…But otherwise it coudl be salvaged, i.e. looks fine for the part that "shows". Woudl not want to sacrifice it for nothing:(. Bit each time I have the slighetst draft, not even fresh, on that side, the ear pressure goes up in no time and ther pressure of liquid forming in the ear hurts all teeth and entire cheek on that side… Maybe I will look more human by the end of this week than I ever did in the last decade…. Woudl be rgeat, specuially after two torture sessiosn at maxilo facial and dentist for extraction and root canal, two days in a row! It is just so nice to feel skin and not only dry paper and bumps and depressions and indentations when I put the palm of my hand against the right side of my face:) Even the right cheekbone that they talked about rebreaking to reconstruct the face, cause it was seeming to stick out a good inch and a half more than the left one, is back to normal and even to the left one now:). Man, they r4eally had my sinuses clogged bad. Worse is, I do not feel congestiosed as in cold sinusitis at all. Not one bit. Is the other two areas of the sinuses (jaw area and forehead/top of head) that were swollen like mad. Top of head feels like the abcess is still there. Landlord called: he wants to come over and change the patio door that exploded in the heat this week. The heck if I will live woith drafts with a root canal, a sinusistis and a surgery on jaw bone and sinuses this week! He took so long he can wait!! He will cost me one more day of work that one:(. Hm. Who knows, if it is fast, they coudl maybe come tomorrow afternoon and replace the thermos glass? Surgery is at 2 and lasts 20 mins apparently where I shoudl be back by three for sure… If not raining, woudl be ideal so I woudl not miss more time, so long as they put the door back on before 6 P.M. and fresher air…. Hm. Happy happy joy joy:) It is so weird to see my face, instea dof that starnger in the mirror. I must say it became a stranger too, so long it has been:) I still can not believe how large my face is:). Evertyythign is relative, I mena compared to jusrt before:). Looks less large than yesterday, cause it seems the lower jaw area of the cheek "filled in" (hydrated now that circulation is better) first…Then the cheek itself… The pores that were completely distended and uuuugly, that nothign coiudl close, show almost all closed and very fine:), save for maybe oh, ten still:) Too bad they will inject that darn anethesic stuff in it the next weeks. I always reacted yuk to that, always made the skin waxy for a week or so:(. Oh well:) Leg swelling is goign down more than ever, too. Go figure. Prilly less pressure in sinus makes less pressure in brain too, maybe infectionc an better be dealt with by the body….But in any case, been a logn long time sicne I saw the real skin texture of my lower legs, too!:) The skin there also being more normal a color, rather than thick rbber of a greysish kind, I laughed wondering what a certaoin spot over my ankle was…Until I remembered: horseriding barefoot/in shorts!! The foot thingie woudl do that , rubbign on the skin over the ankle:). Pfft.Had not seen that oen in over a decade!! Pfft:) Whoohooo! May it go on and not stop:) It has 13 darn years to catch up, and I hope it does not take 13 years just to do that!! Eh:) My pigeon freaks out and beaks me to death: she does NOT recognize me:( Pfft. Just touched the LEFT side of the face: even if work was done on a silly little filling ont he RIGHT side, that side feels creamy too compared to before! Yay!!!:) <insert bug smile showing all teeth here

Black CBR

Question:

Hey All, I currently wear a 4ga 16mm CBR in my PA. I really like the look of some black rings I have seen around on Websites and IAM.   I was wondering what kind of material are they?  Black line? Niobium? Hematite? Ebony? Titanium etc. Regards Dean —

it’s probably either the ‘black line’ from wildcat or niobium.

Response:

The only problem there is I believe black line only comes in thicknesses up to 12 ga  or something like that… I want a 4ga CBR…. Thanks anyway Scott

Then it’s likely made of niobium. I believe that Anatometal does 4ga Niobium CBR’s in black. They’re purty, if you’re into that sort of thing. Derek

Hematite: no. Blackline: I could not tell you. Niobium: yes. Ebony: probably not. Titanium: no. (unless its coated) A 4 gauge ring is not a problem in niobium. Stainless ball okay? Barry~ www.anatometal.com

i’d also suggest the high polish ones over the matte black for a p.a.

I can’t pray for you but I can join your club.  I got a new scanner/printer/copier.  Spent all day Saturday mucking around with it. Decided it was just too slow so Sunday I went a got a new computer.  Mine’s an HP.  866MHz and it even has a CD writer.  So, what does one do with a CD writer besides copy music?  Unfortunately, mine came with all kinda of nifty software and I’ve been exploring since I got it.  I did go to work though but work is interferring with my computer time.  But at least I am only using one so that makes you a bigger geek.  The 2 I have at work don’t count because they are necessary for the job. Wildcat’s blackline is, if I’m not mistaken, exclusively 16ga and 14ga.  But they do have black CBRs (hematite balls for the CBRs though), BBs, CBBs, CVBBs, labret studs, spikes, ear tunnels, etc etc etc.  Sadly no black Ti dimpled balls for CBRs–only threaded ones. —–Clay

Fish Eating Anacharis

My anacharis is threatening to push the fish out of the pond. I started with six nice sized bunches from Daydreamer’s. I had a different problem. My anacharis would cook when it floated on the top of the water in my hot Texas pond. I found a Submerged Plant Protector at a local store. The protector consists of two black rings — one floats and one sinks. These two rings are contained in a black mesh bag. The bag is closed by a drawstring near the sinking ring. I put all my anacharis in the bag, closed the bag, and dropped the whole thing in the pond. The anacharis was contained in a cylinder which was 2 feet wide and about 18 inches tall. The anacharis is now growing very fast, and seems perfectly happy. The anacharis grows through the holes in the mesh, and the fish eat just the tips they can reach. The main body of the anacharis is protected from the fish (and the sun). Maybe a plant protector could save your anacharis. Bonnie Lee Hill Dallas, Texas

The black rings around the nipples may be dried milk from a previous pregnancy. You don’t use flea products on a pregnant cat. You need to use a flea comb and pick the fleas off. A suggestion, before doing this, give her a bath with L’Oreal Kids Shampoo. It’s tearless and will drown the fleas.

Last night Paris (9.5 mos. persian) was getting a *grooming session* done. I was brushing under her armpits and came across a little mat so, I got the scissors to cut it.  Once I did I checked out the spot to make sure her ringworm wasnt a part of the mat.  What I did see was, and I am  99.9% sure, a frign’ flea! When I got Paris last July she had little black rings around her nipples.  I checked and checked but I couldnt find any fleas at all.  I even brought her to the vet etc…..The only thing that she had was ringworm.  The rings were a mystery!!! Both of my cats are indoor and have not come into contact with any other pets.  I am thinking that the only place that Paris could have caught this lil’ prick from was maybe at the groomers in January. Or could she have gotten it from me if I went to a friends house whose animals had fleas?  I am clueless and upset as to where my baby got this from! I shaved her right down last night and found nothing!  Not even the one that I busted!  After a 1/4 of a garbage bag of fur :0( later, I really dont know what to think?  Can it be a male flea and be an only resident? Also, since her wash, cut & set, she seems like a totally different cat. She seems so much happier.  Today she was on the kitchen table (dh wasnt home so I let them up)  she was chasing her tail around, snuggled with me this morning on the rocker, playing like crazy…….she just seems so happy so I think that I may just let her have short fur if she loves it so much! Can I treat her with a flea shampoo to be safe?  Or should I not?  Any advice would be great! P.S  Can I use flea shampoo while I am pregnant?  I know I had to stop using my ringworm cream…… Thanks, Nancy!

You sure went through a lot of trouble for one flea.  I can’t believe you shaved her down.  Are gotta be mental or something, that is a ridiculous thing to do to a cat you love because of one flea. Whoopy sh*t!  I was planning on giving her the lion cut in the spring anyways! It gets to 90d here soemtimes! It isnt like I poured boiling water on her, she is still beautiful with her *brush cut*.  She is only shaved and she is not going to die, she is going to be fine Wouldn’t it have made more sense to use advantage and within 24 hours any flea that was living would have been dead. What if I was mistaken and it wasnt a flea (i havnt found or saw one since).  You would not have shaved your cat, She is still beautiful no matter what her hair style!!!! would have not had to worry about flea shampoo and pregnancy (flea shampoo does not work 100% anyway) in the time that it took you to post to this newsgroup and have me respond to you, you could have gotten rid of ALL your fleas. There was only one (if it was) and I havnt found or saw one since!!!  It only took a couple minutes to post this anyways :0) And I wanted to know if I could apply flea shampoo first without harming my baby, otherwise I would have gotton DH to do it!!!!!! It does not matter if your cat does not come in contact with other cats, or if they are indoor only.. if you ever open your door or you ever walk outside you can track fleas in.  You are never safe, if you have things like gofers, squirrels other animals around the neighborhood.. dogs or what not. It is -40 here, we dont have gofers etc……Before you gon on, my house is well heated!!!!!!  Unless you GEEZE!  I can’t believe you shaved a long haired cat down.!!! Dont kill your self or fall into a depression because I shaved my cat O.K? What is your problem with me shaving her anyways?  It seems like it is *really* bothering you???  Do you have a thing with short haired light coat! She even feels lighter when I pick her up!!! Thats all I care about not your ignorant, meaningless reply that really didnt answer anything that I asked but, just cut me down for doing something harmless!! Nancy!!

Water rings in finish

Question:

I tried searching the back issues for this but couldn’t find it…what’s the method for getting water rings out of a finish?  It’s an oak bookcase with I believe an oil/wax finish.  (smbo thinks it was my brother who made them…that’s all she needs to know…;) tia Doug –  the water ring maker Opinions expressed herein are my own and may not represent those of my employer. Dear Doug:

If the rings are white, they may succumb to very fine steel wool and wax lubricant.  Black rings are a candidate for chemical treatment. You might see if your local public library has a copy of Sam Allen’s book "The Weekend Refinisher".  It is very straight forward and easy to follow.  Many other books on reinishing contain similar advice. I apologize if I have underestimated your experience and ability, but sometimes to routine books are best advice.  Regards. Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

And bigger is better as always with ponds or pondlets. ~~When you replace water are you using pond or tap water. *I use tap water that has sat out for a time so the temp is the same as pondlet and use a dechlor product. the fish live? *Yup, did this last year and everybody did okay. I think the key is lots and lots of plants and water changes. Water changes are really easy to do with a turkey baster. (Just make sure you have a pondlet baster and the turkey baster seperate….) The only problem I had was the predator spider. I had one of those hairy jumping spiders (no idea what it is really called) he would go fishing at the edge of the jar and I’m sure he caught one of the fish as it disappeared. He would also hang out on the side of the jar and chase snails and fish as they moved around inside the jar. I think your spider might be a "wolf spider."  That’s what we called them in the FL panhandle but don’t know their real name.  Their webs are a mess, not organized like spider webs most people visualize. Wolf spiders are good Klingon type spiders.  They don’t hide behind sticky webs like cowards.  They go out and actively hunt.  I believe the leg waving is spider for, "It is a good day to die." you wouldn’t say that if you had a chunk of flesh missing out of your arm after being bit by a Brown Recluse Spider! You definately want to add him to the HIT list. I moved into a house in Jackson Miss that had been empty about 1 year.  The master BR had 2 closets, so I stuffed all the stuff to deal with later into one and used the other.  When I finally got around to tackling the other closet, I pulled everything out to sort etc.  Went to bed and woke up about 4 am with my arm aching.  By 9am it was swelling and uncomfortable and a wound was obvious. But I had to stay at work.  By 4pm when I could finally leave I had to carry my arm and went to the Emergency Room having a great deal of difficulty staying awake.  (I drove myself and should not have been behind the wheel.)  When I walked into the ER, the staff were dumbfounded, I had a fever of 105, my arm was lifeless and swollen beyond belief.  10 days I spent trying to get the fever down and taking betadine baths to stop the flesh from deteriorating further.  When I got the bill, there were 15 pages of nothing be drugs to combat the poison from this nasty little spider.   Karen Houston, TX  Zone 9a Member Internet Pond Society – IPS Visit my pond at http://members.aol.com/kmam1/MyPond/MyPond.html and My Art Studio, specializing in Pet Portraits at http://members.aol.com/kmmstudios/K.M.Studios/K.M.Studios.html

Yes, I’ve always had a healthy respect for the brown recluse (fiddle back) spider.  Way back in the late 1960’s a friend of mine was bitten between two fingers in a Phoenix motel sometime during the night.  He was able to get his wedding ring off when he got up in the morning, and they decided to continue on home before getting treatment.  They had no idea what type of spider had bitten him.  By the time they reached southeast NM, his finger had swollen to the point he couldn’t move it, but it was too late to get to the doctor’s office and he didn’t want to go to the emergency room.  Sometime during the night his finger literally split open from the first knuckle to the edge of his fingernail.  At the emergency room he was diagnosed as having gangrene and the tell-tail red streak went from his finger to his shoulder.  They seriously considered amputating his arm, but didn’t think that would get all the infection.  He was in the hospital three weeks and came very close to dying. Last summer a man we knew was bitten on his foot.  The MD’s ended up operating to scrape the infection off the small bones in his foot and he was in the hospital for quite some time.  Off work six weeks! I’ve never appreciated having spiders around the house.  I avoid them outside but don’t campaign to kill the ones I see.  DH will usually dispose of any found in the house.  My grandfather showed me a black widow when I was little and I suppose he put a healthy respect in me at that time.  I’ve not seen a black widow since, and tend to dispose of most spiders around the house when given the opportunity.  I grew up knowing there were black widow’s and scorpions around (about the only spiders found in the desert areas we lived in during the 50’s and 60’s).  I came face to face with a couple of scorpions while laying on the floor watching TV.  I don’t know why, but I thought they were only in desert areas.  Imagine my surprise when I found a body or two after spraying our house in FL! There is some interesting info on the web.  One address is http://www.brownrecluse.com/  A couple of others are http://www.upcrc.com/ (click on Household Insect Pests), and http://www.highway60.com/mark/recluse.html (this person was very lucky!). Just search for brown recluse spiders and you’ll find others.  I use http://www.dogpile.com/ for searches because it checks 14 or more search engines at a time. Response:

Getting bit by a black widow can be nearly as bad as the recluse depending on where you are bit and what time.  During mating season their venom is much stronger.  If you get bit on an area with lots of fatty tissue, you will eventually develop a necrotic area.  I was bitten on the neck, near the jugular, and the venom traveled throughout my blood stream easily.  Three days of muscular agony and another week before I totally recovered.  The treatment…pain pills.  Doctors said unless you have a compromised immune system are very young or old or highly allergic the anti-venom is worse. Hard for me to imagine. Kyla – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I think your spider might be a "wolf spider."  That’s what we called them in the FL panhandle but don’t know their real name. Actually, "wolf spider" is their real name (unless you mean the latin). Their webs are a mess, not organized like spider webs most people visualize. Also, when threatened, they rear up and wave their front legs at you.

Wolf spiders are good Klingon type spiders.  They don’t hide behind sticky webs like cowards.  They go out and actively hunt.  I believe the leg waving is spider for, "It is a good day to die." Really spooky when they are 1/2-1" in body size!  Had one do that in FL and gave him a wide area to go his way.

They are generally not considered to be hazardous, but they do a good job of freaking out observers, particularly when the people weren’t expecting them. — |Drew Lawson           | If you’re not part of the solution | |http://www.furrfu.com |                                    |

The only spider I object to around the house are black widows…. shiver…..

you wouldn’t say that if you had a chunk of flesh missing out of your arm after being bit by a Brown Recluse Spider! Karen Houston, TX  Zone 9a Member Internet Pond Society – IPS Visit my pond at http://members.aol.com/kmam1/MyPond/MyPond.html and My Art Studio, specializing in Pet Portraits at http://members.aol.com/kmmstudios/K.M.Studios/K.M.Studios.html

the HIT list. This is very true.  My mother was bitten by a brown recluse spider several years ago and her poor face literally swelled beyond recognition.  She was very sick for some time and was in great pain. Brown recluse spiders like to hide but if you stick your toes or fingers into their hiding spot, they will attack.  As a rule of safety  _never_leave your gardening shoes or gloves outside for spiders to crawl into.  My mother  used to store hers on a bench outside the back door, and believes this is how she came in contact with the spider. Removing Water Stain

Question:

We have a water stain on a mahogany end table.  It shows through the finish as a whitish, round stain.  I seem to recall that using denatured alcohol will take this out, but wonder if anyone has ever tried it. Does it harm the finish?

Response:

White stain is in Finish,,,Rub it out with MILD abrasive like Cigar Ash n oil.

Response:

It depends on what color the rings are and the surface film, if any, on the woodwork. White rings are indicative of moisture entrapped in a film finish such as shellac or lacquer. You want to displace or release the moisture to clear up the finish. Here’s a schedule of events from the mildest to the most severe, so try them in the listed order. 1) Apply mineral oil or petroleum jelly to the area and let stand overnight. Repeat applications of this poultice if it shows any beneficial effect until all clear. 2) Denatured alcohol, applied sparingly with a swab or tampon (a rolled up piece of gauze). You MUST test the alcohol for adverse effects first on an inconspicuous area before use, as it will dissolve a shellac finish. You should see results in about one minute after application to the ring. 3) Rubbing out, the most destructive and last choice, can be done with 0000 steel wool and mineral oil as a lubricant. Stroke the ring with the wool, always WITH the grain, trying not to cut all the way through (removing) the finish. This will remove the sheen from the area, and it will have to be evened out with pumice powder, and finally rottenstone, again using mineral oil as the lubricant. Mineral oil can be cleaned off with naphtha, but again, test all chemicals on an inconspicuous area before use. Note these methods will not work for black rings, they are a totally different type of damage and beyond home remedies; scraping, sanding and refinishing will be necessary. Response:

Try using 0000 steel wool with paste wax. Rub in a circular motion, then wipe clean. This should remove the stain without damaging the finish. Good luck. Charlie Sullivan Sleepy Creek Maiden Wood

somebody suggested mayonaise. said it worked for him, but I don’t know how he ever came up with that idea.

Response:

Better is to dampen a rag with denatured alcohol and pad it across the damaged area, no stopping, keep the rag moving. White stain is in Finish,,,Rub it out with MILD abrasive like Cigar Ash n oil. Toothpaste is supposed to work.
