Help! Wbands and NonTrad. Engag. rings…

Question:

To those of you who dont have the traditional diamond engagement ring… What I really want is a smaller version of the princess ring (Like Di’s with a center sapphire surrounded by diamonds) (hey— we arent rich like those lovely royals! ;) )  But I’ve just realized a serious problem… How does one wear a wedding band with something like this?!? I think that the band is the most important aspect, but to wear a band with the ring seems awkard looking.  Is there a way to make a "wedding band" wrap for such an unusuall style or would i have to resort to wearing my engagement ring on a different finger? I really have loved this ring since I was a little girl and I really dont like the traditional diamond ring except for a poss. marcquie cut that is _way_ out of question fiancially… :( Thanks! Elizabeth   who cringed when her love looked through a catalogue, pointed to a     heart-shaped promise ring (that looked _very_ jr highish) and     thought that would be a good engagement ring! He’s sentamental, but     knows _nothing_ about this wedding business except that I love him     and he loves me and we are quite destined by fate to be together… — There is only one thing in life, and I’m not telling what it is. Dont do today what you should have done yesterday because it is     already too late and who are you trying to fool anyways?

Elizabeth,   Just this past weekend, I saw a ring set that might be exactly what you’re looking for.  This couple had it designed for them, but it was based on the Princess Di ring, AND solved the "How-to-do-a-wedding- band-too" problem.   The engagement ring was the saphire with small clusters of diamonds on either side.  For her wedding band, she had a line of diamonds in a small arc that fit against the side of the saphire, thus closing in one side of the circle of diamonds.  I think the plan is for the other side to be filled in on one of their upcoming anniversaries.  (= Hope this helps.  (= Jenn Howard *   Jennifer A. : What I really want is a smaller version of the princess ring (Like Di’s : with a center sapphire surrounded by diamonds) (hey— we arent rich like : those lovely royals! ;) )  But I’ve just realized a serious problem… My engagement ring is a saphire surrounded by 8 small diamonds. : How does one wear a wedding band with something like this?!? I’ve been looking at wedding bands on and off for the last few months <we’re getting married May 28th, so we have to choose bands soon.  I have limited myself to looking at plain bands, either comfort fit or not <my engagement ring isn’t comfort fit, nor does it have "rounded" edges.  I have found a number of bands that actually look really nice with teh engagement ring; but it takes time to find them, nad many stores don’t have any that look very good with it… : I think that the band is the most important aspect, but to wear a band : with the ring seems awkard looking.  Is there a way to make a Depending on the band, it doesn’t necessarily look awkward.  in my case, i have found that if the band fits "under" the stones of the engagement ring <i.e. they are raised up, so a comfort fit band, for example, is often able to sit so it is up against the BAND of my engagement ring, and hence "under" the level of the stones…, it looks really nice. : "wedding band" wrap for such an unusuall style or would i have : to resort to wearing my engagement ring on a different finger? Yes, custom-made rings can be made, which will wrap around the stones, but it may not be necessary <see above… I have considered wearing my engagement ring on my otehr hand, but that menas resizing it significantly…  What I am thinking of doing is only wearing the engagement ring occasionally, on the left hand, but of course wearing the wedding band all the time.  Part of it will depend on what wedding band I eventually get.  Also, wearing the engagement ring CAN be awkward when preparing food <especially when you have to get your hands all goopy or when I do Aikido <it hasn’t caused problems yet, but the risk of nailing someone in the eye exists, so I tend to take it off for my Aikido lessons or when I do things in the lab <like work with electrical components, or acids which is spilled on my will cause serious tissue damage and probably destroy the ring, etc… : I really have loved this ring since I was a little girl and I really dont : like the traditional diamond ring except for a poss. marcquie cut that is : _way_ out of question fiancially… :( I didn’t want my fiance to spend a lot of money on a *ring*.  It just doesn’t suit me nor him.  So, we went shopping together, and we found a beautiful <and inexpensive :) sapphire ring that I absolutely adored.   THAT is my engagement ring.  People have commented on it’s uniqueness, but nobody has yet to say "oh, he didn’t get you a diamond" or anything of the sort <well, there are little diamonds in teh setting, but you know what I mean :) . I would suggest: – look around for the ring YOU want <i.e. teh sapphire one – when you find onje you like, also ask if you can try it on with a couple different wedding bands, so you get an idea of how it will look; the jewlery store we got my engagement ring form let us do this with no problem at all – IMO, it’s better to be happy then to go with "tradition".  If you don’t like a traditional diamond ring, THEN DON’T GET ONE!  Do what is best for you and what makes you happy.  And always keep in mind that custom rings <and ring sets can be made… Good luck! Deanne.
