'Angel Eye' or 'Halo Ring' Headlights

Question:

Has anyone here purchased a set of these aftermarket headlights? I am interested but question the durability of the ring.

These things are pretty darned complex if all you want is a glowing ring around your headlights when they are off.  All you need is a ring of "glow in the dark" translucent plastic around the bulb where stray light from the headlight will hit it.  That will charge up the GITD stuff and they will glow nicely for 15 minutes or so after the headlights are turned off.  This will be plenty long enough to impress the other teenyboppers. say don’t they look like the 5 Series BMW lights?  How do BMW do theirs?

Response:

i haven’t seen them for Hondas yet. only for IS300’s. it might be different for Honda applications, but the IS300 angel eyes are a "simple" design. the halo/ring is just a piece of plastic with fiber optic cable feeding a light source on each side of the ring. the fiber optic cable connects to a light source tucked away in the headlight assembly or somewhere in the engine bay. so really, the ring can never go bad, per se. unless it cracks or something. it shouldn’t cost that much to replace. the only expensive parts would be the fiber cables and the light source. http://is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13323096&highlight=dde http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/lilis300/lst?.dir=/Demon+Eyes&.view=t http://is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13332793&highlight=dde — rich – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Has anyone here purchased a set of these aftermarket headlights? Hey there.  I don’t know how much you’re planning to spend on these things, but if you’re a DIY kind of guy, I saw a tutorial on how to make your own just a little while back.  You can probably still find it: go to http://www.preludeonline.com/ and search the general forums.  The project really turned out quite well, and involved, as the previous post indicated, a plastic tube with fiber optics and an LED to light it.  So durability is really dependent strictly on the LED (which is pretty robust, and easy to change anyway).  Worth a look. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Has anyone here purchased a set of these aftermarket headlights?
