Should wedding bands match?
Question:
Should Wedding bands for the bride and groom match? Where does the engagement ring come into play here or is the engagement ring a completely separate item? Finally, On which hand (rt or lt) and finger does the engagement ring go? Thanks…

I think they look nice if they match, but they don’t have to. Where does the engagement ring come into play here or is the engagement ring a completely separate item?
The engagement ring is a completely separate item. Finally, On which hand (rt or lt) and finger does the engagement ring go?
Left hand, ring finger

They don’t have to, but IMO they should at least be the same color of metal and be somewhat complementary. We both ordered white gold rings with a matching design (Tara Shield), but they don’t quite match. His has narrow bands of yellow gold edging the main band, which gives his ring a heavier, more masculine appearance. You can buy them in matching sets, but they’re usually separate. There’s no way to make my engagement ring work with my wedding band without completely resetting it, so after the wedding I’m switching it to my right ring finger, and having the claddagh I wear there now resized for my left index. For someone who rarely wears jewelry I’m getting weighed down with rings! –Susan (and Dylan) 9/4/99 — Looking for a good read? Ours don’t. I don’t see any reason to have them match unless it is important to you or your fiance.

Wedding bands do not have to match. The engagement ring is usually a separate ring that is worn through the engagement period and later with the wedding band. It is usually the ring with the diamond (or other stone chosen) The wedding band and engagement ring are worn on the left hand (ring finger) with the wedding band closest to your heart (engagement ring on the outside).
